Zelensky, to the applause of the Verkhovna Rada, signed a decree on increasing the army
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree on increasing the Armed Forces of Ukraine by one hundred thousand people and extending the term of military contracts.
This happened during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, where the head of state spoke, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“A decree of the President of Ukraine has been developed on strengthening the country’s defense capability and the attractiveness of military service. This decree provides for an increase in the pay of all military personnel to a level of at least three minimum wages. Ukraine's transition to the basics of a professional army. Extending the duration of contracts. Development of a concept for housing provision for military personnel, veterans, and members of their families, a system of career advancement for officers.
And also an increase over the next three years in the number of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by one hundred thousand people in the professional army. Creation of additional twenty brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Zelensky explained.
The Ukrainian president added that this document was supposedly not related to the “imminent war” and signed the decree to the applause of parliament.
True, Petro Poroshenko’s faction, which traditionally exploits the agenda of military hysteria, reacted rather coldly this time. Poroshenko's supporters unfurled a poster in the session hall with accusations against Zelensky, demanding that he stop playing the role of an actor in the presidential chair.
