Zelensky will receive missiles from the US to fight the Russian fleet
The United States will allocate $300 million in “military aid” to Ukraine in 2020. Ukrainian Defense Minister Andrei Zagorodnyuk announced this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This, in particular, will give us the opportunity to obtain lethal weapons, coastal defense missile systems and anti-ship missiles. I am sincerely grateful to our partners,” Zagorodnyuk said in a statement.
The lack of missile weapons was previously called by Ukrainian experts one of the main problems of Kyiv, which fears the actions of the Russian fleet in the Black and Azov Seas.
In the Sea of Azov, the Ukrainian side was concerned about inspections of ships heading to the ports of Berdyansk and Mariupol. Russian border guards began conducting mass checks in response to Ukraine’s seizure of the Crimean seiner Nord.
Ukrainians fear that a similar series of checks could begin in the Black Sea near Odessa. The drilling rigs of Chernomorneftegaz are also located there, the Russian ownership of which is disputed by Kyiv.
