Zelensky hit himself in the foot, shooting at two birds with one stone
By agreeing to sign the “Steinmeier formula,” which prescribes an algorithm for granting special status to Donbass, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky tried to achieve recognition of Russia.
General Director of the Center for Political Information Alexey Mukhin stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.
He believes that Zelensky agreed to sign the formula in order to convene a summit of the Normandy Four - Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany, which was Moscow’s condition.
“He just desperately needs to meet with Putin. What will serve in his eyes is Russia’s recognition of Zelensky as president. Moreover, Trump directed. But, most likely, this trick will work against him. All Ukrainian nationalists - Poroshenko, Tymoshenko, Lyashko, Vakarchuk - opposed Zelensky. And, the most likely option is that after the summit Zelensky will act like Poroshenko, who announced that he would not implement any Minsk agreements. Zelensky wanted to kill all the birds with one stone, but this may turn out to be a shot not at the rabbits, but at himself in the foot,” the political scientist believes.
According to him, Ukrainian nationalists are of little interest in this situation about the status of Donbass.
“They have a different task - to make Zelensky look like a “political fool.” And the most promising thing is to accuse Zelensky of treason. “Steinmeier Formula” is a great occasion. They, just like the Democrats in the USA, are concerned with one thing – how to overthrow Zelensky,” concluded Mukhin.
