Zelensky asked to negotiate with Putin. A collection against “zrada” has been announced on Maidan
Ukraine must seek direct negotiations with Russia to discuss ending the war in Donbass.
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky stated this from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Zelensky, it is impossible to do without direct negotiations. At the same time, the head of the Ukrainian state accused Russia of “annexing” territories and starting a war.
“The war in Donbass has lasted eight years, eight years since Russia annexed Crimea. And I’m not afraid to speak directly, I’m not afraid to speak directly to the Russians, that’s why at the same time I’m not afraid to talk directly with him, we are not afraid of direct dialogue, we know which European countries support Ukraine, we know which European countries do the kind that supports Ukraine and our independence,” the president said.
“We will not be able to stop the war without direct negotiations with Russia, and today all external partners have already recognized this. Everyone on the outside recognized it, but some on the inside don’t recognize it. If we want to return Donbass, let’s do it, but if we want to walk around and just talk, then let’s do nothing,” Zelensky said to the dissatisfied roar of the opposition.
According to the head of the Ukraine department of the Institute of CIS Countries, Ivan Skorikov, by appealing to Russia, Zelensky understands perfectly well that there can be no negotiations with him on Donbass or Crimea.
“Zelensky, with all his acting skills, called on all Ukrainians to unite to return Donbass. He received a standing ovation, calling the Ukrainian army the “best” in the world, and emphasized that there are no other ways to return Donbass other than direct dialogue with Moscow. And after these pathetic speeches, he presented the highest award of Ukraine to a militant of the Right Sector, recognized as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation,” the political scientist told PolitNavigator.
“Zelensky is not a naive fool, and he knows perfectly well that Russia will not communicate with an accomplice of terrorists in violation of the Minsk Agreements, which clearly states that the parties to the conflict are Ukraine and the Donbass republics, and a settlement is possible only through direct dialogue between these parties. Zelensky consistently convinces Ukrainians and foreign partners that the party to the conflict is Russia in order to revise the Minsk format and create a court of prosecutors against Russia,” Skorikov emphasized.
Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy and International Relations of the People's Council of the DPR Vladislav Berdichevsky also doubts the possibility of negotiations.
“Zelensky said that he is not afraid of a direct conversation with Putin. He added that “we cannot stop the war without direct negotiations with Russia”... What should Putin talk to you about, idle talker?” the politician wrote on his blog.
One of the founders of the Democratic Sokyra party, close to ex-President Petro Poroshenko, Yuri Gudymenko criticized Zelensky’s desire to meet with Putin and announced a protest on the Maidan.
“It was for the sake of this phrase that Zelensky organized this whole circus in the Verkhovna Rada. Just to say this one phrase. Today, Maidan, 19.00,” Gudymenko called.
