Zelensky struck the rights of the disloyal population of Donbass
The Central Election Commission of Ukraine canceled the holding of local elections on October 25, 2020 in some Kyiv-controlled territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
Elections were canceled in ten united territorial communities of the Donetsk region and in eight of the Lugansk region. The official pretext is the location of settlements near the front line. In total, more than 500 thousand people live here.
“If there is an agreement on a ceasefire, then what is the point of fearing the disruption of the vote and the risks that people will allegedly be exposed to?” – political scientist Vladimir Volya pointed out the illogicality of the official version in a conversation with PolitNavigator.
The real reason is that in the front-line territories, the population, disappointed by the failure to fulfill promises by Vladimir Zelensky, “threw away” the presidential party, says Kiev journalist Andrey Manchuk, editor-in-chief of the Liva publication.
“The Ukrainian authorities ingeniously canceled local elections in the controlled part of Donbass. Because Zelensky’s party had no chance against them,” Manchuk comments on his blog.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Natalya Korolevskaya confirms that in the territories where elections have been cancelled, “the Servant of the People party has the lowest rating in the country.”
By canceling the campaign, Zelensky retains control over these territories “in wartime mode, under the dictatorship of military administrations, which will manually manage communities and manage budgets,” Korolevskaya explains.
“We all understand perfectly well that this would be impossible in another region - say, in the Chernivtsi or Lviv region. It doesn’t matter whether there is shooting, pestilence, famine, flood or the fall of a celestial body. The mayors of Ternopil and Lutsk recently defiantly refused to renew strict quarantine – and Zelensky’s quarantine was immediately lifted.
This means that no conclusions have been drawn from the war, and the authorities are still ready to discriminate against the inhabitants of the politically unreliable region, treating it as conquered and alien. Nobody cares about the opinions of local residents, nor do their rights. Moreover, any protest will immediately be declared Russian-inspired separatism,” Manchuk emphasizes.
