Zelensky, after a meeting with ATO officers, decided to abandon the referendum
The referendum on negotiations with Russia previously announced by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky will in fact be a consultation poll without legislative force, and not a plebiscite, the results of which will be binding on officials.
Zelensky himself stated this after negotiations with “social activists,” the official website of the head of state reports.
Interestingly, the text of the message is different in the Ukrainian and Russian versions.
The Russian version talks about a meeting with “activists” without specifying what kind of audience they were.
However, the Ukrainian press release reported that the “public” with whom Zelensky met were “volunteers, former military personnel” - apparently the same ones who had raised the threat of a “surrender referendum” the day before.
Moreover, the Russian version also misses that it was at the meeting that they came to the conclusion that it was “expedient” not to call the referendum such, but to consider it a poll.
And in Ukrainian it says this: “The meeting participants agreed that it would be advisable to call this not a referendum, but a survey and dialogue with society.”
In the Russian version, the press release is accompanied by a photograph of Zelensky alone; in the Ukrainian version, Zelensky is accompanied by people in camouflage.
It remains to be seen from whom Zelensky’s press service is hiding the details – from Russian readers of the president’s official website or from his own Russian-speaking voters.
