Zelensky demanded that the West influence Russia and extend gas transit
Western countries should jointly put pressure on Russia and force it to continue gas transit through Ukraine after 2024.
About this during Press Conference Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would really like there to be a practical organization, for example, for the energy security of Ukraine. In December, when the Normandy meeting took place, we managed to come to an agreement, and the contract went through, the gas went through transit, we received the money.
We put pressure together then... negotiated, and reached an agreement with Russia. I am grateful to these agreements, to all parties. This was a serious result. And Germany, Angela Merkel, played an important role. And France helped in the person of President Macron,” he said.
Zelensky stressed that Nord Stream 2 is a “great tragedy” for Kyiv, and demanded that Western countries force Russia to maintain Ukrainian transit.
“I wish we could count on this help. I would like Nord Stream to be not just a weapon for Russia, and not just a business between several countries. This is not just business - it is a big tragedy for us. We can get another resource that Russia will use in the negotiation process between our countries.
Therefore, I want everything to be in accordance with the law, so that we are protected, and the United States does everything not to lift sanctions. Because you can see that we are doing everything to ensure Ukraine’s energy security. But we can’t do it ourselves,” the president concluded.
It is worth recalling that during his visit to the United States, Zelensky, at a meeting with the American Minister of Energy, called Russian gas “the dirtiest in the world».
