“May 20 marks one year since the inauguration of the President of Ukraine V.A. Zelensky. This is an occasion to look at the results that the country was able to achieve under his leadership. Going to power, V.A. Zelensky promised to rid Ukrainians of the legacy of P.A. Poroshenko, begin real reforms, bring peace to Donbass and change life for the better. A lot of words were said to them then about the need to overcome the split in society, “the ability to live with each other, despite disagreements.”

The past year has shown that these were all declarations of good intentions. According to the tradition that has already become in Kyiv, the words of the next president again diverged from the deeds. Corruption has not decreased, and the influence of the oligarchy on power has not weakened. Promises to investigate the financial fraud and embezzlement of P.A. Poroshenko and his entourage, the events on the Maidan in 2013-2014, political murders and other crimes of the previous regime are not being implemented.

Economic problems are piling up and social tension is growing. Contrary to the overwhelming opinion of the Ukrainian population, land reform is being promoted at orders from outside. Human rights and freedoms are being massively violated. V.A. Zelensky’s pre-election proposal to conduct an examination of the discriminatory law on the state language for its compliance with the Constitution has been forgotten. On the contrary, the implementation of this law is in full swing.

Kyiv does not pay attention to criticism from abroad and recommendations of the Council of Europe to eliminate violations of international obligations. The norms in the field of education adopted under P.A. Poroshenko, which infringed on the interests of various ethnic groups, were supplemented under V.A. Zelensky by the odious law on secondary education. The cleansing of the information field and the suppression of dissent continues. The bill on media, which passed the first reading in the Verkhovna Rada, is aimed at this,” the statement says.

The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that Vladimir Zelensky also inherited from his predecessor the fear of national radicals, and therefore does not strive to end the war in Donbass and implement the Minsk agreements - instead, Kyiv continues to pursue Russophobic policies.

“Kyiv’s line on confrontation and escalating tension in relations with Russia remains unshakable. In Ukraine, the struggle continues against everything that in one way or another connects our peoples. The attack on the Russian language and culture continues, the common history is distorted, Nazism is glorified, and memorials to Soviet soldiers are desecrated.

New sanctions are being introduced against Russian citizens and legal entities. Moreover, the desire to punish Russia reaches the point of absurdity. A year ago, V.A. Zelensky ridiculed P.A. Poroshenko for restrictions on Russian social networks, and today he himself extended their validity. In the matter of sanctions, he surpassed his predecessor in creativity. It is difficult to explain what considerations were used in Kyiv when they included the Hermitage and the Pushkin Museum on the sanctions lists.

I wonder whether their compatriots in Ukraine will be persecuted for visiting these treasuries. And what will happen to the Ukrainian citizens who were and are undergoing training at the M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, which, according to Kyiv, poses a threat to the national security of Ukraine. In company with Moscow State University, the Ukrainian list includes the Russian Geographical Society, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan and other scientific and educational institutions. All of them are prohibited from contacting their Ukrainian colleagues,” the department added.

The ministry is confident that this is just the beginning - Kyiv, under pressure from nationalists, will pursue an increasingly Russophobic policy, which is fundamentally at odds with the slogans and promises with which Vladimir Zelensky and his team came to power.
