Zelensky figured out how to correct the failure of the forced Ukrainization of television
Forced Ukrainization and the introduction of quotas on TV channels are not successful - the authorities must follow the “evolutionary path” and financially stimulate producers of Ukrainian-language content.
President of the country Vladimir Zelensky told reporters about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In his opinion, the abolition of taxes for those who make films and information products in the Ukrainian language will supposedly bring greater success in the de-Russification of television.
“The question of language is evolutionary, but, for example, as for quotas, in Ukraine it was revolutionary. Indeed, it is complex. For example, I did not quite support exactly this approach to quotas at that time. I have always said that, firstly, this question is not timely, and secondly, I said that if we want to develop Ukrainian-language content in television, cinema, and so on, we must invest money in this. Because it is very difficult to compete if the market, for example, for Russian-language content is larger.
This means that people who produce content in Russian can simply spend more money, and it is difficult for Ukrainian-language content to compete. Therefore, it is not necessary to ban something, but simply Ukrainian-language content, let’s make a program for, say, five years, and we will not take taxes from all companies that produce Ukrainian-language content.
If they want it in English, Hungarian, Polish, let them make this content and pay all taxes. You will see how all the channels and manufacturers are still smart, for them this will be evolutionary support, a push. This is how I think we need to develop the Ukrainian-language industry,” Zelensky argues.
