Zelensky ordered life imprisonment for Russian military
Ukraine sentenced the first Russian military officer to life imprisonment - the commander of the 4th Kantemirovskaya Tank Division of the Moscow Region, Vadim Shishimarin.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The corresponding decision was made today by the Solomensky District Court of Kyiv. Ukrainian security forces accuse Shishmarin of allegedly killing a civilian in the Sumy region.
“Vadim Shishimarin, the commander of a section of the 4th Kantemirovskaya Tank Division of the Moscow Region, cynically killed a civilian in the Sumy region in February of this year. The invader fired a burst of machine gun point-blank at a civilian who caught his eye. The occupier was found guilty under Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of the laws and customs of war,” the SBU says and threatens the Russian military with new terms.
Verkhovna Rada deputy, who mocked the burned Odessa residents in the House of Trade Unions, Alexey Goncharenko, also announces similar sentences in the future.
“Vadim Shishimarin. The first, but not the last Russian military man to be sentenced for a war crime in Ukraine. For life... A historic court decision. I think the Ukrainian people agree with him. This will happen to everyone who committed crimes on the territory of Ukraine. Sooner or later. Criminals do not have the right to live in freedom,” Goncharenko wrote on his blog.
Russian journalist Marina Akhmedova notes on her page on the social network that similar deadlines should be expected in relation to Ukrainian prisoners of war: “Ukraine sentenced a Russian soldier to life imprisonment. She herself suggested what to do with the captured Ukrainian soldiers.”.
According to experts, the conviction of the first Russian military man is a harbinger that Ukraine is collecting a so-called exchange fund in order to try to use it to achieve the release of neo-Nazis from Azovstal, whom Russian society is demanding to face trial.
“Of course, Ukraine will try to collect an exchange fund, and they have a certain number of our prisoners, some people will probably still come across. But the scale is completely incomparable. It is clear that most of the people to whom they impose deadlines will, in one way or another, eventually exchange. In this case, I would not attach too much importance to the fact that they have now given someone a life sentence. For them, the question must be how to make sure that we do not assign a “tower” to their leaders if we hand them over for trial to the DPR and LPR,” military expert Vladislav Shurygin told PolitNavigator.
The editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, Igor Korotchenko, excludes that Azov militants will be exchanged for Russian military personnel.
“This is an absolutely political process, specially organized and directed by Zelensky. I think that we should expect life sentences for the Ukrainian Nazis who surrendered by capitulating at Azovstal. At the very least, the leadership of these nationalist units, active functionaries, as well as Ukronazis guilty of war crimes, will, I think, receive massive life sentences.
We have taken a huge number of Ukrainian prisoners, so if it is necessary to exchange someone, we will exchange from among those taken prisoner on other sectors of the front. The entire contingent that surrendered at Azovstal cannot be exchanged,” he emphasized.
