Zelensky admitted that the “Bakhmut fort” turned out to be not a “fort” at all
Promoted by Ukrainian propaganda, the “Bakhmut Fort” (now the DPR authorities have returned the name Artemovsk) was not ready for defense.
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Zelensky complained that it was impossible to strengthen the city’s defense because the artillery of the Russian Armed Forces destroyed buildings occupied by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and units had to be withdrawn.
“Against artillery, excuse me, buildings were destroyed there. How do you want to strengthen a five-story building or strengthen just some building when the 122nd, 152nd receive 50 thousand shells a day? What is a fortified city? I don’t quite understand what can be done with a house into which artillery is constantly flying?” said the President of Ukraine.
“People need to be taken out of this building - not to strengthen it, but to take it out. Because you lose people, it doesn't get stronger that way. The entrances to the city are being fortified - yes.
Bakhmut was not prepared for a full-scale war, Bakhmut is one town, but it is clear that such forces met there, and it was clear that Bakhmut would take on the function of a magnet. This is the whole story, and whoever tells you that you can strengthen a five-story building against the S-300 or against artillery, it seems to me that this does not sound entirely fair,” Zelensky said.
