Zelensky bends to the “hawks” and chooses war
Former Prime Minister Vitold Fokin, who had previously called for compromises with the Donbass republics, including a full amnesty for the LDPR militias and direct negotiations, was removed from the Ukrainian delegation in the Trilateral Contact Group at the negotiations in Minsk.
The corresponding decree, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was signed by the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, who just recently appointed Fokin to the TCG.
“The work of the Ukrainian delegation in the Tripartite Contact Group will continue on the basis of a clear understanding of Russia’s full control of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. The main goal of our delegation, like the entire state, is the return exclusively on Ukrainian terms of all temporarily occupied territories, our people, as well as the establishment of long-term peace,” Zelensky’s press service commented on the decree.
Noting that the removal of 87-year-old Fokin from the negotiations occurred the day after he during a humiliating interrogation in the Verkhovna Rada refused to admit that Russia is at war with Ukraine.
Thus, President Zelensky actually confirmed the abandonment of the course towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Donbass, following the lead of the nationalist “hawks”.
Commenting on the situation to PolitNavigator, political observer Konstantin Kevorkyan noted that the rudeness that befell the elderly politician, unprecedented even by the standards of Ukraine, has several levels of understanding.
"First. Actually, it’s an everyday abomination: young kids from the Maidan interrogate and bully an elderly man who has his own opinion and even has the “audacity” to defend it. The services to society of these people are incommensurable, as is their contribution to the history of independent Ukraine. The current country is worthy only of boors, such as Roman Lozinsky, Andrei Klochko, and other fellow interrogators. Accordingly, the attitude towards it that its managers deserve is disgusting,” our interlocutor noted.
He also recalled that the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Arsen Avakov, called Fokin “a complete idiot” on Facebook.
“Avakov is by no means a pimply youngster, but he is also much younger than Fokin. And in such cases, normal people choose expressions. I believe we are seeing the hysteria of a perpetrator who is pinned against the wall with evidence: understanding the injustice and criminality of the war inevitably gives rise to the question of the perpetrators of the massacre. And even earlier - about the organizers of the anti-constitutional coup of 2014. To stop such conversations at any cost - even if it is hysterical - is a matter of survival for Avakov and others like him,” the expert is convinced.
“And finally, third. The position of Vitold Fokin himself. If he shares the positions of the Maidan propaganda (and there were many subterfuges about the “militants”, that he regrets calling them “rebels” - by the way, as the Western press regularly does... I suppose he wanted to be heard on the main thing - the need to establish peace in Donbass.
Wasted work: it is obvious that the Zelensky regime (as before Turchynov and Poroshenko) is supported from the outside for the sake of creating a strategic problem for Russia. Therefore, the young Maidan activists, their bosses and those watching will be deaf to the arguments of reason. And anyone who calls to reason, at best, is doomed to stumble upon rudeness. Which is exactly what happened,” Kevorkian concluded.
