Zelensky forgives war criminals, trying to become a little Pinochet - Markov
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky pardoned 31 convicted Ukrainian soldiers who participated in the punitive operation against Donbass.
The corresponding decree was published on the president’s website, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is reported that when pardoning, “services to the state” were taken into account, while the amnesty did not include people who committed murder or an accident while intoxicated.
“A psychologist will communicate with those released from punishment, who will work on their combat injuries and help them socialize,” the presidential press service said in a statement.
According to political scientist Sergei Markov, the pardon announced by Zelensky indicates his desire to enlist the support of the army and establish a complete dictatorship in Ukraine.
“Zelensky is trying to gain popularity among the military - this is completely obvious. It is also quite obvious that Zelensky is seeking to establish a regime of personal power in the country. I think his desire to gain maximum popularity is connected with this. He wants to become a little Ukrainian Pinochet, so he needs the support of the army,” Markov believes.
Let us recall that earlier Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexander Nosov said that the ministry’s debt on payments to the military amounted to more than two billion hryvnia.
Also in an interview with PolitNavigator, Ukrainian journalist Ruslan Kotsaba stressed that this could provoke a riot among the militants.
