Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky asked US President Donald Trump for help in returning Crimea and Donbass to the control of Kyiv. Zelensky stated this during a meeting in New York, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to him, it is possible to return Crimea and Donbass only with the help of the United States and the EU: “My first priority is to stop the war in Donbass and take back our territories - Crimea, Donbass. Thank you for your support in this... Only together with the US and the EU can we stop the war.”

“If you remember, you lost Crimea under a different administration, not under the Trump administration,” the American president noted, clearly hinting at his competitors in the upcoming elections.

"Yes. So you have a chance to help us,” Zelensky interrupted him.

“It’s true, I do it. But that was during the Obama administration when you lost Crimea, and I don't think that's what it should be. But this was done a long time ago, and I think it was handled poorly,” Trump added.

The American president, as in the transcript of his telephone conversation with Zelensky published the day before, began again to reproach the leaders of the European Union for insufficient assistance to Ukraine.

“I think other countries should help Ukraine much more. They are Germany, France, the countries of the European Union, they really should help you a lot more. And I think maybe we can work on this together. They should feel a little guilty because they're not doing what they should be doing," Trump said.

At the same time, Trump emphasized several times that he was pleased with the “thaw” in relations between Ukraine and Russia and would like Zelensky to reach a compromise between the countries: “And one more thing that I heard about is that you actually did this - in the last, quite in a short period of time, you actually made some progress with Russia. I heard great progress has been made. Just keep going. It would be nice to put an end to this whole disaster... I really believe that President Putin would like to do something. I really hope that you and President Putin will get together and be able to solve your problem. This would be a huge achievement. And I know you're trying to do it."
