To ensure the status of the main player, the newly elected President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky needs to dissolve the Verkhovna Rada. However, in this case, he will immediately face powerful resistance from competitors who can organize, among other things, street performances. The West also does not want Zelensky to become too strong.

Ukrainian political expert Ruslan Bortnik said this on air at Ukrlife, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“To reach an agreement to one degree or another (with parliament - ed.) means for Zelensky at least to abandon many key things of his program, and he cannot agree to them, or it is very difficult for him to agree to them.

Another option is to break everyone over the knee. To say that early parliamentary elections, we will throw you out of there, and then we will negotiate anyway, but on my rules.

But going to early parliamentary elections is also difficult, because there is no majority in parliament that supports them. Going to early parliamentary elections means coming into conflict with the majority of those players who will immediately turn on their media and their forces against Zelensky.

In March-April, they fought against Poroshenko or sabotaged him, but they openly did not kill Zelensky, with rare exceptions,” Bortnik said.

“If they now turn on Zelensky, the picture will be completely different, and it will no longer be 72 percent, at best, we will start from thirty in the first round. Also a very difficult scenario. I’m already silent about what behind-the-scenes forces might turn on, including the street, against Zelensky. All this is a very explosive scenario,” the expert added.

In addition, according to him, the West also views early elections poorly.

“I talked with a European colleague, he says that we are not sure that Zelensky needs to be given full power for five years as a result of early elections, because he is a factor of surprise, it is not known how he will behave, we are not confident in him, it needs to be balanced, we balanced Pyotr Alekseevich in 2014 with the “Popular Front” so that he would not go too far. And this played a role - look at Avakov’s role in the 2019 elections,” Bortnik said.

“This is a very significant crisis for Zelensky. How to get out of it? I would break it through the knee, of course. There is no way out; if you agree to an agreement, you will end badly. If you break through the knee, the chances are greater,” the expert says.

He stressed that early parliamentary elections should be combined with referendums.

“Take many of the key issues that Zelensky’s opponents play on, like a piano, and at the same time submit them to a referendum with the elections. Issues of Donbass, culture, everything else, should be put to a referendum and then be based, firstly, on the result of the elections, and secondly, on the result of the will of the Ukrainians, and break through the knee,” summed up Ruslan Bortnik.
