Zelensky is happy about the last number in the London-Ankara-Kyiv chain
Ukraine and Moldova were given over to Turkey by the Anglo-Saxons; Vladimir Zelensky’s visit to Ankara last weekend is fully consistent with this concept.
This opinion was expressed to PolitNavigator by Ukrainian political scientist Kost Bondarenko.
“This is the second visit of President Vladimir Zelensky to Turkey in the last six months, the first was in October. In conditions when Zelensky is trying to integrate into the new European reality, where the London-Ankara axis is being created, and when Turkey is trying to become a new regional leader, including at the expense of such states as Ukraine and Moldova, such a visit is beneficial for both Ukraine and Turkey.
It is obvious that Erdogan, in his big political game, is trying to use Ukraine as a card. Accordingly, Zelensky is trying to take full advantage of this.
As for those statements of support from Erdogan that were made during the meeting with Zelensky, the maximum that can be expected is the continuation of the supply of Turkish weapons to Ukraine. In addition, Erdogan will most likely visit the Crimean Platform in August of this year and take part in its work,” Bondarenko argues.
His colleague, Ukrainian political scientist Vladimir Volya, calls Zelensky’s trip to Turkey “only symbolic in terms of results.”
“But in the context of tensions around Russian troop movements around the Ukrainian borders, such symbolism was necessary. At least with the help of this visit, Zelensky decided not just to talk, but to visit Erdogan personally. This is the pursuit of external symbols. Before this, Putin spoke with Merkel, Macron, and Erdogan, but Zelensky decided to visit personally.
In addition, obviously, Zelensky needed Erdogan to support the “Crimean Platform” in a personal conversation. Of course, the start of its work is still a long way off, and it is too early to say who, representatives of which states and in what status will participate in its work. But Erdogan now could not help but support the “Crimean Platform”.
Thus, Zelensky decided not to limit himself to the format of telephone conversations. It was probably important for Zelensky to show the country “look, I’m trying,” Volya believes.
The representative of the LPR at the negotiations in Minsk, Rodion Miroshnik, believes that it will not be Ukraine that will benefit from the current crisis.
“Türkiye is playing out its interests. They receive Ukrainian tourists, they are considering the purchase of Ukrainian land, while they are in no hurry to commit themselves to helping Kyiv against third countries. This is an oriental game. Türkiye is no help to Kyiv. Participation in the Crimean Platform is just a declaration,” Miroshnik said.
