Zelensky ordered to “unblock the Black Sea region”
With the support of the EU, US and UK, Ukraine intends to create a powerful navy.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated this in an interview published by the Kyiv magazine Novoye Vremya.
“Yes, the issue of Crimea is also a matter of unblocking the Black Sea and Azov coasts. We are working on this. There is a task to build a large fleet by 2035. This is quite a long time, but you and I will be able to clearly see the results of the first stage on August 24 of this year. Our task is to build a professional, powerful fleet capable of repelling anyone; we are a peaceful state, but we must be ready for any steps. We are preparing to unblock the Black Sea region. This is exactly the task that was given by me personally and was supported by our army,” the president said.
“I understand that we cannot wait 20 years until we have the infrastructure for full-fledged shipbuilding, so we will begin to build a fleet, including in other countries,” added the Ukrainian leader.
According to him, in parallel, the corresponding infrastructure is being built in Ukraine.
“There will be corvettes, there will be military boats, there will be small submarines - all this will definitely happen. The same applies to military bases; construction of the first will soon begin in Berdyansk. In this large-scale project, we count on support from the European Union, Great Britain and the USA. We have already received full support from the UK. The issue of strengthening the Ukrainian Navy is part of our imminent meeting with the President of the United States, and also part of the agenda of the Crimean Platform and our conversations with other states,” Zelensky assures.
As PolitNavigator reported, Zelensky's words about the construction of a corvette in Turkey is not confirmed by anything.
