Zelensky distributed positions to those who distinguished themselves in the punitive operation in Donbass
President Vladimir Zelensky confirmed Lieutenant General Nikolai Balan, a person on the Russian sanctions list, which was published at the end of 2018, as head of the National Guard of Ukraine.
A native of Western Ukraine, Balan is one of the few officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Crimea who refused to support the Russian Spring in 2014 and left for the mainland. Here, already in April, he was appointed deputy head of the newly formed National Guard of Ukraine - the new authorities created it specifically to take militants away from the barricades in Kyiv and, arming them, throw them into suppressing the pro-Russian uprising in Donbass.
Another of Zelensky’s appointments today is the confirmation of Colonel Sergei Deineko as head of the State Border Service. In 2014, he was considered a hero in Ukraine, because under the leadership of Deineko, Ukrainian border guards held the defense of the base in Lugansk from the militia for several days.
For this, Deineko subsequently received an order and a “grain” assignment to the Transcarpathian region, where the Ukrainian press repeatedly accused the official of “protecting protection” for smuggling.
