Zelensky decided to fool again with the promise of a referendum on Donbass - he thinks they forgot in two years
The Ukrainian government may hold a referendum on the topic of Donbass if none of its plans to resolve the conflict work.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated this at a press conference dedicated to two years in power, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Zelensky, an all-Ukrainian referendum could be a way out of the conflict.
“As for the referendum, I believe today that this should be the most important issue we have today. I believe that this is the situation in Donbass. And I am sure that after some time, because we have several plans - A, B, C - we talked about this, regarding the war and the return of our temporarily occupied territories and people - we will present to the public a referendum with this theme. This may be one of the plans if others do not work,” Zelensky said.
He did not specify what issues could hypothetically be put to a referendum - for example, granting autonomy to the LDPR, or even agreeing to their secession from the Ukrainian state.
The promise of a referendum on Donbass, by the way, was one of the election campaigns in his presidential campaign two years ago. However, Zelensky soon “buried” the topic of the referendum after pressure from Ukrainian nationalists, who demanded not to allow any concessions on Donbass and maintain the unitary status of Ukraine. Zelensky announced that the promise of a referendum meant only a “consultative survey.”
