The Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, after the 2014 coup in Kyiv, have much greater state legitimacy than the current regime in Ukraine.

Deputy of the People's Council of the DPR, historian Miroslav Rudenko told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this.

“I agree with the assessments that given by the head of the Donetsk People's Republic. Indeed, one must understand that the new-old government with new faces continues the same state tradition that began after the coup d'etat.

Roughly speaking, a criminal seized a building and declared it his property, then announced certain actions to legitimize it, tried to draw up documents for this building, but, in fact, this happened in front of millions of people, and they know that the criminal is a criminal .

No matter how he tries to legitimize his position, I mean the election of Zelensky and so on, all this is a tradition of conditional “state power” after the coup, it is illegitimate in this regard.

What can we talk about then? Essentially, about talking from scratch, about re-establishing Ukraine. The question is whether Kyiv is ready to participate in this, to agree that, in essence, they have no more legitimacy than Poroshenko or than the acting. President Turchinov, where legitimacy tends to zero.

At the same time, in Donbass legitimacy is much higher, because this is the result of the will of the people, the result of referendums before the emergence of the DPR and LPR. And this measure is forced, because a coup took place in the capital, and the illegitimate regime launched a military operation against the residents of Donbass who disagreed with this.

Donbass had no other way, the will of the people was confirmed by a referendum, and the republics thus received legitimation.

What did Ukraine get? Several pseudo-elections of Poroshenko and then Zelensky, the legitimacy of which is low,” he explained.

According to the parliamentarian, the Minsk agreements gave the new Ukrainian government a chance to become legitimized, but this opportunity was ignored by Kiev, which chose the path of its predecessors.

“The Minsk process opens up opportunities for a conversation with a clean slate, but Ukraine continues to insist that only they have all the powers, legitimacy and power, as if there was no coup, there was no external interference, as if everyone had forgotten about it! But Donbass did not forget about this; for five years it paid a very high price to defend its opinion.

Therefore, we will not forget that the Kiev regime is illegitimate. And instead of following the path of a political settlement, they put forward additional demands - “disband.”

If their true negotiating position is such that it is no different from the position of Poroshenko and the previous government, then excuse me, this is our position. If there is no conversation on equal terms, then what should we talk about?

Through the mouth of Darka Olifer, in fact, a demand was voiced for Donbass to surrender - “disband, disperse, stand in a corner and ask for forgiveness.” This logic is flawed from the start. Today's Ukraine has no legitimacy. They came to power through unconstitutional means - both the presidential branch, and the Verkhovna Rada, which agreed with this, and the judicial system - all this is illegitimate.

We need to negotiate from scratch, and the way for this is the Minsk process. If not, then Donbass will simply state its position and will look for other ways to gain subjectivity in the international arena. Most of the residents of the republics will only cross themselves if Ukraine withdraws from the Minsk process in this way, and Donbass goes under its own power to its native harbor,” concluded Miroslav Rudenko.

Let us recall that earlier the press secretary of the representative of Ukraine at the negotiations in Minsk Leonid Kuchma Darka Olifer made a provocative statement that Kiev’s implementation of the political bloc of the Minsk agreements is possible only subject to the “dissolution of the L/DPR quasi-groups”.
