President Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree that lifts a number of previous bans on visiting the exclusion zone, including the creation of a “green corridor” for tourists, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The head of the Ukrainian state himself stated this today. state, its press service reports.
“We must show Chernobyl to the world: scientists, ecologists, historians, tourists... Today I signed a decree that will be the beginning of transforming the exclusion zone into one of the growth points of the new Ukraine. First of all, we will create a “green corridor” for tourists and remove the preconditions for corruption,” Zelensky noted, adding that “there will be no bans.”
Now, he says, Chernobyl is a source of corruption. “Unfortunately, the exclusion zone is still a symbol of corruption: security forces collect bribes from tourists, scrap metal is illegally exported and natural resources are used. We will stop all this soon,” he emphasized. Zelensky promised that Chernobyl would be turned into a scientific and tourist site, which “will become a symbol of the freedom of the new Ukraine - without corruption and bad prohibitions, with investments and a future.”
