Russia is ready to extend the transit contract with Ukraine for three years, which is a consequence of the Normandy Four negotiations.

Nikita Danyuk, deputy director of the Institute of Strategic Studies and Forecasts of the RUDN University, stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Russia, by direct supply of gas, is depriving (income – editor’s note) the hucksters and speculators who supply reverse Russian gas to Ukraine. Regarding the contract. Obviously, there is no point in signing a ten-year contract for our country with an incomprehensible transit pricing formula. Ukraine, for its part, says that it cannot sign for one year...

Zelensky said that at the moment a compromise is possible, in which transit will be preserved and the contract will be signed not for ten years, but not for one year. Ukraine, thus, will be able to obtain “blue fuel” at 25% cheaper, maintain the contract for three years, which will help receive dividends to the country’s budget,” the expert concluded.

After Euromaidan, Ukraine announced that it had abandoned direct purchases of gas from the Russian Federation and was using the so-called “reverse scheme”, according to which the same Russian gas is purchased from intermediary companies in Europe at a markup, and, as experts previously stated, they have a profit, including including Ukrainian officials close to the scheme.

Let us remind you that today the media reported, with reference to President Zelensky, that in Paris it was possible to agree on the transit of gas from the Russian Federation. However, later NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine reported that Ukraine and Russia failed to agree on gas transit at the meeting of presidents in Paris. In connection with this, Odessa blogger Yuri Tkachev put forward a humorous version in his telegram channel: they say, perhaps Putin and Zelensky have agreed after all. But Zelensky has yet to negotiate with Naftogaz.
