Zelensky begged Merkel to save him from Putin
During the Normandy Four summit in Paris, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky was noticeably nervous, especially when Russian leader Vladimir Putin took the floor.
Sign language expert Ilya Anishchenko spoke about this in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets.
“At the beginning of the Normandy Four meeting, the President of Ukraine was noticeably nervous, but tried to calm down - for example, he often licked his lips. When Putin took the floor, a grimace of hostility appeared on Zelensky’s face. At the same time, it is noticeable that the President of Ukraine is also afraid of Putin - he experiences stress when he is near him,” Anishchenko noted.
According to him, one could observe “a whole range of stressful emotions” in Zelensky, who “drank water three times, constantly shook his leg, changed his position, and jerked his hand.”
The expert also saw in the gestures of the Ukrainian president a request to the German Chancellor.
“I saw a prayer gesture from him when Angela Merkel began to speak. Zelensky hoped that the German Chancellor would be able to influence Putin on issues that concern him. As soon as she started speaking, the President of Ukraine immediately clasped his hands and sent her a verbal message, like, help, please. For example, I noticed such a gesture when it came to control in the border area,” says the publication’s interlocutor.
In addition, the specialist assessed the non-verbal signals emanating from Vladimir Putin.
“I didn’t notice any strong stress in his facial expressions; he is confident in his position,” Anishchenko emphasized. – His reaction is interesting when Zelensky said that Crimea is Ukrainian territory. At that moment, Putin smiled, he was skeptical about his words, a grin slipped on his face: they say, how many times can you talk about the same thing.”
