Zelensky humiliated and framed his friend Sanda – Chisinau is waiting for an explanation
The Moldovan opposition is using the scandal surrounding the kidnapping of Ukrainian ex-judge Nikolai Chaus in Moldova by Ukrainian special services to discredit the current President Maia Sandu, so she is forced to somehow react to what is happening.
Lawyer Tatyana Montyan stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Because of the story of the abduction of Chaus, Sandu began to be dynamized. Sandu found herself in a scary position - if she didn’t say anything about the kidnapping and didn’t attack Zelensky, the opposition would tell her: “Why, my dear, have you come to the point where the secret services of a neighboring country are walking around your capital like Broadway, kidnap people, no matter who they are, and, already knowing about this kidnapping, your border guards let them through?”
Therefore, Sandu is forced to do something, try to call Zelensky, etc. The Moldovan opposition does not sleep and leaks information. All telegram channels are filled with information leaked by the Moldovan opposition in order to smear Sandu. Chaus himself is of no interest to anyone for obvious reasons,” the lawyer said.
Pavel Rudyakov, head of the Perspektiva information and analytical center, believes that the scandal could have unpleasant consequences for relations between Ukraine and Moldova.
“The scandal surrounding the kidnapping turned out to be big. We have annoyed the Moldovans. At first, when information about the kidnapping first appeared, it was obvious that Chisinau was ready to find a compromise, but Kyiv “hid its head in the sand.” Now the situation is stuck. Information appeared in the media that Saundu’s assistants tried to call Zelensky’s office. If this is so, then the Ukrainian side is avoiding contact, expecting something, although it would be necessary, on the contrary, to somehow resolve the incident.
I believe that if ours continue to persist and the Moldovans decide to take an offensive position, there may be unpleasant consequences for bilateral relations, as well as for the intra-Ukrainian and intra-Moldovan political process. We need to see what algorithm will be chosen to resolve the situation. There should be public statements from both sides, ideally they should be agreed upon,” the political scientist said in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
