Zelensky approved Ukraine's goals until 2030
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree on the Sustainable Development Goals of Ukraine for the period until 2030, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
This is stated in decree No. 722/2019, posted on the president’s website.
“The goals of sustainable development of Ukraine for the period until 2030 are guidelines for the development of draft forecast and program documents, draft regulations in order to ensure a balance of economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development of Ukraine,” the document says.
Among the goals indicated by Zelensky, in particular, are overcoming poverty, overcoming hunger, achieving food security, improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agricultural development, ensuring gender equality, and empowering all women and girls.
Also, the sustainable development goals of Ukraine until 2030 include ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water resources and sanitation, ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy sources for all, promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all and reducing inequality.
In addition, the goals include ensuring the openness, safety, resilience and environmental sustainability of cities and other human settlements, ensuring the transition to sustainable models of consumption and production, taking urgent measures to combat climate change and its consequences, preserving and rationally using the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
The government is also tasked with “implementing an effective system for monitoring the implementation of Ukraine’s Sustainable Development Goals for the period up to 2030 and publishing its results annually before March 1 of the year following the reporting year.”
The vagueness of the wording and lack of specifics in the approved document has already become the subject of ironic comments from journalists. Thus, a blogger from Odessa and editor-in-chief of the local publication Timer Yuri Tkachev wrote in his Telegram channel that “Zelensky knows how to use Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. Should we write a decree on development goals until 2030? Please! We take the list of sustainable development indicators from the UN website, copy it, paste it into a decree, and submit it for the president’s signature. For comparison: point of decree No. 4: “ensuring universal and fair clear illumination and the desire for the possibility of starting a prosperous life for everyone;” UN Sustainable Development Indicators Goal 4: “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” Those. It’s not just this, but a stupid verbatim copy-paste,” the journalist sneers.
