Zelensky is already late with Donbass, but will pull the cat by the tail until October
The formation of a new government in Kyiv will drag on until October; we should not expect any revolutionary initiatives on the Donbass from Ukraine in the coming weeks; however, the Ukrainians have long missed the moment to return Lugansk and Donetsk.
This opinion was expressed to a PolitNavigator correspondent by Russian political scientist Oleg Bondarenko.
“To understand what kind of policy Zelensky will pursue, you need to wait until the formation of the parliamentary coalition is completed, the government is formed and its work begins. Thus, we will see what this “pig in a poke” is only by October, not earlier, and maybe later,” the expert noted.
According to him, one of the intrigues will be the behavior of numerous majoritarian deputies elected under Zelensky’s party brand to the Rada.
“Only one thing is clear: Zelensky is unlikely to accept the political elements of the Minsk agreements now. It is unlikely that Zelensky will agree to any normalization of relations now.
And, most importantly, Donbass is unlikely to be ready to accept these Minsk agreements. They were relevant in 2015-2016, but today Donbass may not be ready to accept them, because time has passed,” Bondarenko concluded.
