Zelensky in Paris hoped in vain to fool his head
At the negotiations in the Normandy format, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky will be required to amend the Constitution regarding the special status of Donbass, and he will not be able to refuse, citing the impossibility of introducing these changes through parliament, as Petro Poroshenko once did.
Candidate of Political Sciences Kirill Molchanov stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I believe there will be a tactic of small steps. It can be accurately assumed that they will agree on a ceasefire, an exchange of prisoners and disengagement. And questions of a legislative nature, whether there will be amnesty and status, will most likely be brought up for discussion in the Minsk Contact Group.
Zelensky will not be able to fool Merkel and Macron, as Poroshenko did in his time - he has a majority in parliament. Accordingly, having assumed obligations in the negotiations, he can implement amendments (to the Constitution).
Moreover, there will be enough votes to amend the Constitution, since Boyko’s faction has already said that it will support all these changes in Donbass.
So it is obvious to Western partners that in the current configuration of the Verkhovna Rada there is no longer a so-called “war party”, hawks who were categorically not ready to take any steps towards Minsk.
There is a possibility of implementing this entire package of agreements. The only questions are whether Zelensky will have the political will to move point by point, or will he bargain on each one, trying to relieve the pressure from the street as much as possible,” the expert said.
Mass protests organized by the opposition will not develop into a new “Maidan”, since the West does not support this.
“The current Maidan has no prospects. “Maidan” is impossible without external legitimation of the process. And we see that none of the representatives of Western embassies expressed any support for all these actions.
Poroshenko is simply trying to earn political points from this in order to demonstrate that he is almost the main opponent of the new government. This is being done for one purpose: if Poroshenko’s immunity is lifted, he will say that this is political persecution for his irreconcilable position on the Normandy format,” the political scientist said.
