Zelensky in Turkey spoke on the Majlis piece of paper
Russia has launched a special operation to transform the Crimean Tatars simply into “Tatars,” Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said during a visit to Turkey, where he held a meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora, as well as people from the peninsula.
“Many Crimean Tatars were forced to leave their home again. And those who remained suffer from arrests, searches and constant harassment: from the ban on holding rallies on May 18 and honoring the memory of the victims of deportation to attempts not to notice you at all; when in the public rhetoric of local authorities and the media they constantly say “Tatars” and deliberately omit the word “Crimean”, neglecting your identity,” his press service quotes Zelensky.
“I know for sure that the day will come when Crimea will return to Ukraine, and the separated Crimean Tatar families will gather at one table. And the song “Hey, Guzel Kyrym” will sound only like a long-standing memory of all the difficult trials that befell your people,” he added, recalling the song, which is believed to have been written during the deportation from Crimea during the Great Patriotic War war on charges of mass collaboration.
