Zelensky in Zhytomyr fired half of the local authorities
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, during a working trip to the Zhytomyr region, ordered the dismissal of nine heads of regional departments and three heads of the SBU in the Rivne, Volyn, and Zhytomyr regions, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“I am addressing Mr. Knyazev and Mr. Bakanov. Rivne region - Rokitnyansky, Dubrovitsky, Vladimirsky, Zarechnetsky, and Sarny districts. Please release the heads of regional departments, they are not helping in our country. And then we’ll figure out who is in the scheme and who is not. Zhytomyr region - Olevsky, Obrutsky districts. Volyn region - Ratnovsky and Lyubashevsky districts. To Mr. Bakanov: please change the heads of the SBU in three regions - Rivne, Volyn, Zhytomyr,” Zelensky said.
Zelensky also ordered the dismissal of the head of the police of the Zhytomyr region due to protection of illegal amber mining in the region. According to him, illegal amber mining in Ukraine has reached the scale of an environmental disaster.
“If we are talking about the Zhytomyr region, these are the Olevsky and Ovruch districts. I kindly ask you to fire the heads of regional police departments,” Zelensky said.
In response, Knyazev promised him to fulfill this assignment.
Zelensky also addressed the head of the regional police.
“I will talk to the manager, I also recommend that you leave your post. I will speak with Mr. Avakov, and now with Mr. Knyazev. I do not believe you. In 4 years you say you stopped (illegal amber mining - ed.), but I have economic conclusions about what you stopped, who stopped... I suggested this to you, maybe you are a normal person, maybe you weren’t in the scheme, but you can’t do nothing with the amber pirates of the Zhytomyr region,” Zelensky said. According to him, for former leaders of regional security forces, “the best option is to change their address and country of residence.”
After that, he turned to the chairman of the SBU in the region.
“We will change the chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Zhytomyr region. I would like Mr. Ivan Bakanov to consider another candidate,” Zelensky said.
He also contacted the regional prosecutor, at the same time the deputy prosecutor said that he was on vacation.
Zelensky’s actions were commented on by the famous Kiev journalist and columnist Vyacheslav Chechilo on his social network page.
“Zelensky is a young and inexperienced politician. Otherwise, he would not have burned his bridges behind him. You can publicly fire half the region with a scandal for illegal amber mining. And even appoint new people. But this is absolutely not the same as stopping production. What will Zelensky do in a couple of months, when it turns out that the new cops are protecting the amber just like the old ones? It will no longer be possible to fire someone pretentiously. It will be necessary to either retreat shamefully or really seriously fight this phenomenon,” writes Chechilo.
According to the journalist, Zelensky leaves himself no room for maneuver.
“And this is generally good. Either he will merge faster than Poroshenko merged, or he will do something,” the journalist concluded.
