Zelensky brings fear to Paris instead of trump cards
Vladimir Zelensky does not have any trump cards for negotiations in the Normandy format, but he has fear of nationalists, with whom the Ukrainian president is flirting, promising not to allow compromises that are undesirable to the radicals.
Lawyer Elena Lukash stated this on air on the ZIK TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I don’t see any trump cards in Zelensky’s hands. I don't see a team that could give such trump cards. Moreover, I do not see the steely willpower that will allow negotiations and implementation within the country.
The constant fear of being branded a capitulator has led to the fact that the rating is falling down, and a quarrel with all political groups in the country. He comes from a position of weakness. It's not his fault. It’s the fault of Poroshenko, who signed all this, but Zelensky obviously aggravated the difficult situation with his behavior,” Lukash said.
““The authorities are constantly justifying themselves to the nationalist minority, of which there are 2 percent. When they want peace, they don’t tighten the screws. All legislative initiatives to regulate the media, legal decisions, detentions, resumption of criminal prosecutions - not those who need to be imprisoned, not those who criticize them, constant checks - tighten the screws. These signs cast doubt on the sincerity of the president’s intentions,” she explained.
Lukash expressed bewilderment at Kyiv’s refusal to discuss granting autonomy to Donbass.
“What happened in Donbass was paid for in blood. Any status here is obvious and understandable. This could unbalance Ukraine. I would not rule out the possibility that some territories will claim their rights. I would suggest that the authorities decentralize and provide subjectivity to all regions of Ukraine. Not exactly the same as the Donbass, but close to them, and reset the social contract on governing the country in a referendum.
I believe that with each year of its independence, Ukraine demonstrates a complete degradation of power, life and becomes deserted. It is not worth holding on to the central government and its powers, which destroy the future of their country with every action. It is necessary to reboot the country, it is necessary to give subjectivity to the regions,” the lawyer added.
