Zelensky chooses the moment to restart the Rada and punish his comrades-in-arms for betrayal
The team of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is racking their brains on how to take advantage of the current situation to further strengthen their power in the country.
The Kiev online publication “Mirror of the Week” writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is noted that Zelensky is trying to seize the moment and announce parliamentary elections in order to “effectively restart and gain a foothold in power for another five years.”
According to sources, just yesterday the president’s office was inclined to hold elections on time - October 19, but now this issue is hanging again.
“However, the firm intention of the presidential office to remove the current parliament from the game and gain a stable majority in the new one (and Zelensky’s trust rating is now 85%) is a mandatory element in modeling the Bank’s picture of the political future. The creativity of the president’s team, which it demonstrates throughout its term, easily overstepping promises and laws, is well known. But war is definitely not a case when you can say one thing, think another, and do a third,” the material says.
The publication draws attention to the fact that out of 240 “servants of the people” in parliament, 180 consistently vote.
“In essence, the faction is in the process of half-life,” says a source in the party leadership.
There are several reasons for the majority crisis.
“Firstly, the war negated the financial leverage of its association. At some point, it became easier for Bankova to negotiate with strangers than to babysit her own. Both ideological and commercial. And this not only lowers self-esteem, but also greatly discourages deputies. Secondly, the upcoming parliamentary elections (and not the war) have become the general background of work in parliament.
Back in February, David Arakhamia gathered the faction and voiced the main introductions. The deputies were promised to write off all the negatives and count old achievements as a bonus, but they announced complete discipline during voting as the basis for getting into the new team. About 10–15 optimistic “servants” are actively catching up, trying to replenish the list of 140–150 reliable ones from this convocation. The rest, realizing that there is no chance for them, are actively looking around,” the author describes the situation.
Moreover, all this is happening “in the context of a policy of completely nullifying parliament as an independent branch of government.”
“Due to the martial law, the center of decision-making, including the formation of the Verkhovna Rada agenda, was finally cemented on Bankova. Zelensky treats deputies as Putin treats Ukrainians. He despises them. Those who “entered the parliament on his shoulders”, those whom he deliciously fed and watered... Not all of them showed the proper disciplined loyalty, which he, as a father - the founder of the faction and the Supreme Commander-in-Chief - could count on.
Emotionally, the president wants to punish betrayal by cleaning the list. It’s rational to gain a foothold, because it knows that parliament is the key to the Cabinet of Ministers, the Cabinet of Ministers is the key to money and the security forces, and the security forces are the master key to local authorities for using administrative resources in any election campaign,” ZN summarizes.
