Zelensky shields Bakanov, delaying the moment of his dismissal as much as possible
The head of the Kyiv regime, Vladimir Zelensky, neither confirmed nor denied the information about his intention to dismiss the head of the SBU Ivan Bakanov.
According to Zelensky, an inspection of all law enforcement agencies of the state is currently underway.
“As for the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, firstly, if I wanted to fire him, I think I would have already fired him. Secondly, indeed, we are undergoing an inspection of all law enforcement agencies now, precisely because on the 24th, when there was a full-scale invasion of our land by the Russian Federation, some representatives of certain law enforcement agencies disappeared somewhere, instead of being on place, to defend your state and your people. For various reasons,” Zelensky said.
“All these reasons - I travel around the regions and listen to these reports myself, not on papers, but personally, from certain leaders of the relevant regions. Therefore, a change in the leadership of any law enforcement agency (any, because we inspect all law enforcement agencies) depends only on this. That’s what I do,” he added.
He also commented on the future of the Security Service reform. According to Zelensky, he fully supports the SBU reform imposed by the West.
“The reform law was voted in the first reading. True, this was before the war. War makes adjustments, that's true. We will continue on our way to the European Union. But I emphasize once again that we are making reforms for ourselves, and not for the European Union. Therefore, there are many reforms, many plans. I think that even a war will not stop us from taking some important steps forward,” he said.
Earlier, the American publication Politico, citing four sources, reported that Zelensky wants to fire his longtime friend Ivan Bakanov from the post of head of the Security Service of Ukraine “after a series of failures and the loss of Kherson.”
