“The desire of the President of Ukraine to become a “stepson” sitting on the neck of the Old World and ready to suck its economic and military resources is understandable, but does Europe, which is going through difficult times, need such an insolent dependent. Until now, Brussels has persistently insisted that Ukrainian politicians take care of the well-being of their state, while Europe agreed to play the role of an older, wiser comrade.

But the current visit showed that the Europeans will have to start working with the Ukrainian elites all over again - with the arrival of Zelensky, Kiev again views the European Union as a “cash cow” responsible for the future of Square,” the publication notes.

At the same time, the publication points out, Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis promised to allocate a second tranche of macro-financial assistance to Kyiv in the amount of 500 million euros, but only if certain requirements are met.

“And the main thing that the tight-fisted Europeans emphasized is that the country should not even think about declaring a default on its previously incurred debts. So Zelensky, in response to such generosity, had no choice but to assure Mr. Dombrovskis with a wide smile that the information about Kyiv’s plans to declare a default is just rumors.

Behind the doors tightly closed to the press, it remains unclear how successfully Zelensky’s show (and his visit to Brussels cannot be called anything other than a show) in the Old World went well. And will the European elite now take seriously the “funny man,” as the Western press called Zelensky before the elections in Ukraine,” the newspaper summarizes.
