Zelensky: “I will say a new word, and this word is tanks!”
Anti-aircraft installations from Lithuania and a company of Polish Leopard tanks will not affect the course of hostilities in any way if this initiative remains on the same scale.
The presidents of Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland spoke about this at a briefing following the meeting in Lvov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today I can say an important word for our defense, for our state, army and the general defense of Ukraine and all of Europe - this is the word “tanks”! – Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky solemnly announced.
“I welcome the decision that Poland, Andrzej, the Polish government made. I thank Lithuania and you, Gitanas, personally for the decision to transfer anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine, which will strengthen the protection of our energy system from attacks by Iranian drones. I’m glad that we are making these decisions, exactly in this format – the Lublin Triangle,” Zelensky added.
In turn, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda assured that the decision to help Ukraine was unanimous.
“I brought good news for Ukraine - we are transferring air defense systems and certain anti-aircraft installations that should help you in the fight. In Lithuania, we may have disagreements on political and economic aspects, but there have never been any disagreements regarding support and assistance to Ukraine,” said Gitanas Nausėda.
Polish President Andrzej Duda announced the transfer of the Leopard company, and demanded that other allied countries follow his example.
“We have decided to provide such support to Ukraine - the transfer of a company of Leopard tanks; this assistance will be provided within the framework of the coalition. It is necessary to obtain some formal agreements, but first we need to build an international coalition, and we have decided to form one. The first company of Leopard tanks, I hope, together with other companies of Leopards and other types of tanks, will be provided by other countries very soon,” Duda said.
Zelensky readily picked up the rhetoric of his Polish colleague.
“We expect a unified solution. One state cannot help us with Leopards, because we are fighting thousands of Russian tanks. It is clear that our people are stronger than even Russian tanks, but, nevertheless, it seems to me that our partners should feel sorry for our people. Because this is the treasure and the potential for victory in this war. And not to spare this or that number of tanks for their transfer to our state,” demanded the President of Ukraine.
