Zelensky debates the main issue for Donbass
Ukrainian negotiators in Minsk continue to sabotage the most important requirement of the agreements on Donbass - enshrining in the Constitution the special rights of Donetsk and Lugansk. Instead, Kyiv is trying to implement a trick - to refer to a non-working law on a “special status” for Donbass, which nationalists can cancel at any time if they wish.
Alexey Muratov, head of the Central Executive Committee of the Donetsk Republic Organization, stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
“Following the results of yesterday’s meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk, we once again witnessed the lack of political will in official Kyiv to take real steps towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Donbass. In that the position demonstrated by representatives of the new government is no different from what we have seen in all previous years.
There is a law “On the special status of the Republics of Donbass”, which was adopted back in 2014, but it cannot work until appropriate changes are made to the Constitution of Ukraine. And the Ukrainian side categorically refuses to discuss this key issue"- said Muratov.
“You can extend the validity of a non-working law for as long as you like, speculate on introducing changes, which, by the way, were not agreed upon with the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics“, although this is precisely the order provided for by the Minsk agreements, this will not bring us one step closer to the long-awaited peace,” the social activist emphasized.
According to him, instead of taking concrete steps, Kyiv continues to mark time.
“It makes no sense to build the walls of the Minsk process if the appropriate foundation is not laid under them. Official Kyiv continues to create only the appearance of work while he is required to take, albeit a difficult, but obvious step - in agreement with the Donbass republics, make changes to the Constitution of Ukraine necessary for the implementation of the law “On Special Status”, which will provide the opportunity to move on to the real implementation of the Minsk agreements,” concluded Alexey Muratov.
