Zelensky has taken bread and circuses from people - and is waiting for his ratings to grow
The Ukrainian authorities do not understand that by closing opposition television channels and intimidating bloggers, they will not achieve an increase in confidence in themselves.
Lawyer Elena Lukash stated this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I believe there are two main factors behind what happened to these channels. The first was a sharp drop in ratings, which could no longer be hidden. The second is the necessary silence during the plunder of the country. The media, through the rights and responsibilities given by the constitution, convey information to people - and people’s living standards and ratings have collapsed. But, of course, those who did everything to make our lives worse are not to blame; of course, journalists are to blame.
And secondly, silence. What does freedom of choice of information and freedom of speech provide? It provides sound, it provides picture, it provides position options and clarity. When you're about to do something that's not very good, you need silence. And this year we are waiting for the administration of the judicial system, the land market and many other delights, including pensions and other reforms that need silence.
When freedom of speech is turned off, the lights turn off and all other guaranteed rights and freedoms are turned off, because there is no one else to talk about it, because there is no one else to protect oneself. And no one will know what is really happening. Therefore, freedom of speech is turned off.
Today the channels have been disconnected for two weeks. Well, has the rating increased? Has people's trust returned? How is the situation in general? Maybe the economy has begun to develop, maybe hostilities in the Donbass have stopped? What happened? Now, these channels are turned off - what will our viewers experience other than disappointment, distrust, and anger?
Trust in power appears when there are two components - the well-being of people and the presence of necessary rights and freedoms. If you took away bread from people - and Zelensky’s policies are really destroying the socio-economic standard of living in the country - and at the same time took away entertainment - because you intimidate lawyers, you intimidate bloggers, you intimidate TV channels, you deprive the right to broadcast - you took away bread and spectacles. What kind of rating growth do you expect?” concluded Elena Lukash.
