Kiev appointed the new head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group, the unpredictable Leonid Kravchuk, in order to confuse his opponents and disrupt the negotiations.
Political scientist Andrei Kucher stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We know that Kravchuk has the nickname “Fox” circulating behind the scenes among politicians. He is truly a powerful and wise politician who is capable of resisting the greatest elders, not only in Ukraine, but throughout the entire post-Soviet space.
And here his role can be quite useful. Tactically speaking, this is the right step when Kuchma was replaced, which is already quite calculated and understandable, his reaction can be predicted. And Kravchuk is a normal, logical tactical move when the leader changes, and it is already unclear what the other side can expect from Kravchuk in our negotiations,” said Kucher.
In turn, political consultant Nikolai Volgov expressed confidence that the appointment of one of the politicians who destroyed the USSR to the TCG is an attempt by Kyiv to mock representatives of Moscow and the OSCE, as well as to delay any negotiations as much as possible.
“I think TKG has arrived. Kravchuk’s appointment is subtle trolling. Firstly, I remember his story with Belovezhskaya Pushcha, which ended with the collapse of the Union. Secondly, the appointment to the TCG of such an old and respected politician, but who does not influence the adoption of any decisions, shows that this is not just an honorable exile, but an opportunity for Leonid Makarovich to make a “demobilization chord” before his full retirement.
Firstly, he is in no hurry, so negotiations in the TCG will turn into molasses, in which any ideas will get stuck like flies and drown. This will continue to turn into a talking shop, in which a person who is in no hurry, but has such colossal experience, wisdom and Ukrainian cunning from the series “it’s a quiet Ukrainian night, but the lard needs to be hidden,” will have a headache. But not from the Ukrainian delegation, but from representatives of other delegations,” the expert added.
