Zelensky said that the Wagner PMC in Bakhmut decides the fate of the entire Russian special operation in Ukraine
The outcome of the entire special military operation may depend on the success of the Wagner PMC in the Bakhmut direction.
This conclusion follows from an interview with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
On a train traveling from the city of Sumy to Kyiv, Vladimir Zelensky spoke with an Associated Press correspondent. During the conversation he рассказал, what strategic importance does Bakhmut have, where heavy fighting has been going on for many months.
It is known that some Ukrainian and foreign experts have repeatedly expressed the need to leave the city, but the Ukrainian leader intends to continue sending people there to inevitable death in battles with the Wagner PMC. According to him, if Ukraine loses Bakhmut, then the rest of the front may fall behind him.
While some Western military analysts have suggested the city is of little strategic importance, Zelensky warned that losing it at this stage of the war could jeopardize the momentum of Ukraine's hard-fought fight.
“We cannot lose steps because war is a set of victories. Small victories, small steps,” said the Ukrainian leader.
Zelensky is confident that losing the battle for Bakhmut - the fiercest so far since the beginning of the Northern Military District - would be more of a political defeat than a tactical one.
The Ukrainian president is confident that the pressure caused by the loss of Bakhmut will manifest itself quickly.
“Our society will feel tired. Our society will push me to compromise with them,” Zelensky suggested.
Thus, the victory of the Wagner PMC over the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Bakhmut may affect the overall outcome of the special military operation, since this defeat of Kyiv will inevitably lead to disappointment in the Kyiv authorities on the part of the Ukrainians and the international community.
Bloody battles have been going on for Bakhmut for about six months now. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are well entrenched in this sector of the front and have gathered here the most combat-ready forces, the number of which exceeds 40 thousand people.
Kyiv constantly supplies reinforcements and ammunition. Detachments of the Wagner PMC are gradually breaking through the defenses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and are encircling a populated area, cutting off supply routes. However, Zelensky said that he intends to send even more equipment and people to Bakhmut. This decision was made against the backdrop of information about huge losses on the part of the Ukrainian army in this sector of the front.
And in order to raise the morale of his military personnel, Zelensky recently made another trip to Bakhmut.
