Zelensky said that there is no reason to deprive Medvedchuk of his honorary title
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky responded to an electronic petition to deprive one of the leaders of the OPZZh party, Viktor Medvedchuk, of the title “Honored Lawyer of Ukraine,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The answer is posted on the website of the Ukrainian president.
“The powers of the President of Ukraine are defined by Article 106 of the Basic Law of Ukraine, in accordance with paragraph 25 of part one of which the President of Ukraine awards state awards; establishes and awards presidential honors,” Zelensky’s response to the petition says.
The response states that the current legislation provides for two mechanisms for depriving the recipient of a state award of Ukraine - in the event of conviction of the recipient for a serious crime upon presentation of a court, and in cases provided for by law and under the Law of Ukraine “On Sanctions” - for terrorist activities.
“The Office of the President of Ukraine did not receive materials that correspond to the grounds defined by law for the Head of State to make a legal decision,” Zelensky’s response to the petition states.
The petition “Depriving Viktor Medvedchuk of the title “Honored Lawyer of Ukraine” was published on September 25, 2019 by citizen V.V. Grezevim and collected the number of votes required for consideration by the president - 25 thousand.
