Zelensky and Co. warned: inaction is fraught with loss of public support
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky today signed bill No. 1032 adopted by the Verkhovna Rada regarding the reform of the prosecutor's office, increasing the powers of the Prosecutor General, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The official portal of the Verkhovna Rada reports this.
“The bill is aimed at introducing priority and, in many respects, temporary measures related primarily to the personnel reload of the prosecutor’s office through the certification of current prosecutors, as well as providing the opportunity to all respectable candidates, possessing theoretical knowledge and practical skills, to take up the position of prosecutor in any the prosecutor's office," the statement says.
Commenting on the signing of the law, Ukrainian lawyer Andrei Portnov focused on the fact that the adopted and signed document “is designed to help the new head of the prosecutor’s office get rid of the ballast of Poroshenko’s functionaries without unnecessary time and bureaucratic costs.”
According to Portnov, “this is exactly what the criminals from Poroshenko’s entourage needed to move to prison.”
At the same time, the lawyer expressed concern about “such a long downtime.” According to him, “The law has been signed and there are no more barriers to active action.”
According to Portnov, the end of September should be marked, at a minimum, by the arrest of ex-People’s Deputy Sergei Pashinsky, the submission of the prosecutor to parliament to prosecute Petro Poroshenko and “a massive attack by international prosecutors in offshore areas.”
“There is no more time. If there is inaction, you will lose public support,” Andrei Portnov warns the new government.
