Zelensky was not allowed on the main stage of the forum in Munich
The world has begun to forget that the war, which is already lasting like World War II, is not taking place in Ukraine, but in Europe.
Vladimir Zelensky stated this at the Munich Security Conference. The speech of the President of Ukraine took place not on the main stage of the forum (where US Secretary of State Pompeo, the head of the Pentagon, French President Macron, etc. had previously spoken), but in a separate section, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are talking about the traditional Munich Security Report this year, about which we have mixed emotions. On the one hand, I and the 65 million Ukrainians on the planet are embarrassed by the fact that there are only eight mentions of Ukraine. And this, unfortunately, is the lowest figure since the beginning of the war and the annexation of Crimea. In this regard, as the president of a country that has been defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity for the sixth year in a row, a fair question arises: isn’t it too early for everyone to start calming down?” – Zelensky said.
“Saying “war in Ukraine” is not entirely correct. This is a war in Europe, and it, together with the annexation of Crimea, is already lasting like the Second World War. Yes, we, like no one else, strive to stop it and will be happy when references to Ukraine as a danger zone disappear altogether,” the Ukrainian president added.
Zelensky again rejected negotiations with the leadership of the LDPR and mentioned that over two months more than 400 attacks on Ukrainian positions were recorded.
“We are assured that an effective mechanism is direct dialogue with the so-called local authorities in certain areas of the Lugansk and Donetsk regions. We are ready for dialogue with the civilian population of these territories, but not with those who are unrecognized from the point of view of international law, and therefore cannot represent the local population of Ukraine.
Moreover, I talked a lot with ordinary people from the temporarily occupied territories, but objectively the voice of Donbass is not only their opinion, it is at least one and a half million Donetsk and Luhansk residents who were forced to leave their home,” Zelensky said.
Speaking about the upcoming local elections in Ukraine this fall, Zelensky noted that he would like to hold them with both Crimea and the LDPR.
“People in Donbass need elections that will be recognized by Ukraine and the whole world as legitimate, and they cannot be like that if they are not held according to Ukrainian legislation, to the sound of gunfire and without control of our border,” Zelensky added.
