All three main demands with which Vladimir Zelensky went to negotiations in Paris were not satisfied. To talk in Kyiv about the victory of the Ukrainian delegation is completely absurd.

Aleksey Chesnakov, a political scientist and director of the Center for Political Conjuncture, who is close to Russian Presidential Assistant Vladislav Surkov, stated this on air on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“What did they do to Avakov? He was brought to Paris so that he could demonstrate that the president’s team is united, and so that he would not play various games there in Kyiv while Zelensky negotiates in Paris on certain parameters of the Minsk agreements. You have to understand that this was a protocol role. Now Avakov is trying to compensate for this protocol role, he offers some of his own interpretations, acts as a newsmaker, he needs to show that he has his own position on certain issues, even if it is not substantive and he describes what happened between the members delegations...

Let's be honest? What did Zelensky talk about before the start of the Normandy summit? He said that he was going to Paris to agree on a revision of the Minsk agreements in order to remove the issue of a permanent special status, so that “first the border, and then the elections,” and not vice versa, as is now written in the ninth paragraph. He achieved none of this. He achieved no results on these three counts. What victories, what achievements? – Chesnakov noted.

At the same time, Russian State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin expressed the opinion that Zelensky took the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov with him to Paris to demonstrate to the Ukrainian radicals under his control that there is no “zrada” and, thus, to protect himself against the backdrop of the lack of positive decisions for Ukraine.

“He got into the adult presidents club. In general, it is prestigious for him to be at this table... In this case, it is prestigious for him, it increases his rating.

During the press conference, he returned to what he had talked about earlier, namely, he tried to make it clear that he does not like everything in these Minsk agreements, that they need to be adjusted, and so on.

That is, he has an alibi in front of those citizens who came to the Maidan, who, as I understand it, including those in his government, maintain contacts with Avakov, who generally represents this camp. And that’s why he took him hostage, took him there so that he could hide behind him that Avakov was there, everything was fine, and Avakov confirmed it.

Why is Avakov even in this role? Because he leads, supports and stands behind those who come out from extreme radical positions on this same Maidan. Although he is in the government, and they seem to be in the opposition. But, in fact, from an ideological point of view, they are on the same page,” the parliamentarian concluded.
