Zelensky is being brought to early elections
Failure of the Ukrainian ruling Servant of the People party in local elections could lead to early parliamentary elections.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, is expressed by political experts interviewed by the Kyiv online publication Apostrophe.
According to the head of the Center for Research on Civil Society Problems, Vitaly Kulik, contradictions in the Servant of the People are intensifying, and an insurmountable gap has opened between individual internal party groups, since members of the mega-faction cannot find a common language on key issues of the country’s political and economic development.
“If each vote is too “expensive” for Bankova (in political terms), then the president may go to early parliamentary elections. It is possible that there will be an official split in the Servant of the People faction. For this, we need a trigger that will appear after local elections, when in some regions it will not be possible to form the majority necessary for Bankova in the regional councils,” Kulik does not rule out.
In turn, an expert at the Ukrainian Institute of Politics, Kirill Molchanov, says that local elections for the presidential party have become the cold shower that they were warned about all this time. The expert also believes that if the faction has a constant lack of votes on bills, it will either have to create a new coalition or go to early elections.
“For the president, the dissolution of parliament will be a last resort when things get really hot and it will be necessary to significantly defuse the situation,” Molchanov said
In addition, it is noted that in the event of early elections to the Verkhovna Rada, the electorate, which was not initially the base for the Servant of the People, will break away from the presidential party.
“As observers note, in the southeast, voters will most likely return to the “traditional” parties represented by the Opposition Bloc and the Opposition Platform - For Life (OPZZH) (this trend has already been confirmed by local elections). The jingoistic patriots from the EU of Petro Poroshenko have a chance to bite off part of the electorate in the central and western regions,” the publication writes.
