Ukraine has already “opened the door” to resuming trade with Crimea.

The former so-called “representative of the President of Ukraine in Crimea” Boris Babin stated this on the air of the Apostrophe Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to Babin, the recent Decree of the President of Ukraine on the movement of goods through checkpoints in Donbass can be projected onto Crimea.

“There are certain “bells” that are quite bad.

On the one hand, there is a Decree of the President of Ukraine stating that in Donbass the Cabinet of Ministers must resolve issues regarding the movement of goods through checkpoints. Let me emphasize – not citizens’ belongings, not humanitarian cargo, but goods.

In principle, if we politically and legally introduce the possibility of trade turnover with the occupied Donbass on the agenda, the obvious next step would be the same trade turnover with Crimea, since, from the point of view of economics and law, there is little difference between occupied Crimea and Donbass - both the territory is uncontrolled, and both territories are de facto economic space of the Russian Federation.

If we allow ourselves to open a window to bypass normal customs posts with Russians in Donbass, then what will be the difference between Donetsk and Crimea? In fact, nothing,” Babin said.

He assures that Crimea also wants to restore economic relations with Ukraine.

“Indeed, the Russian occupation power in Crimea is actively trying to implement several major projects of interaction with the territory controlled by Ukraine. Naturally, in the interests of the aggressor state. They are interested and profitable in establishing freight railway traffic, obtaining water through the North Crimean Canal, and also, possibly, establishing freight traffic by road freight transport...

Of course, the new government declared a rather tough and consistent position, indeed justified, that water should not flow into Crimea through the North Crimean Canal. However, nothing in this position said anything about goods other than water.

We can talk about the supply of ore, fodder for livestock farming, building materials, and so on.

Plus, about the possible supply of illegal cargo to the ports of Crimea, and here we can have the widest range from grain to scrap metal,” worries Babin.
