Zelensky is advised to play in contrast to the stubborn Banderaites
If elected president, Vladimir Zelensky has a chance to achieve a complete ceasefire on the demarcation line in Donbass if he agrees to the Russian option to introduce a UN peacekeeping mission between the LDPR and the territories controlled by Kyiv.
Mikhail Pogrebinsky, director of the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflictology, stated this on air on TV channel 112 Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, Petro Poroshenko has no chance of re-election.
“We have already crossed the red line, beyond which significant changes will no longer occur... I believe that most people still want change, do not want a continuation of what happened before,” he said.
The political scientist believes that the new president needs to try to demonstrate success immediately after the elections, and his first steps should emphasize this. In particular, it is necessary to conduct a prisoner exchange on the “all for all” principle.
“Petr Alekseevich categorically objects to the very principle of “all for all.” He says there are people on the lists who have no Koine connection at all. If he had even a drop of conscience, he would even think about this to me. It is extremely important for Zelensky that his first steps after the elections look victorious and successful. Therefore, instead of chatting “I won’t invite” (for negotiations Medvedchka, as Poroshenko says), he needs to come to an agreement. He has a chance. This gives the election winner a chance to look like a winner,” Pogrebinsky said.
In addition, Zelensky has the opportunity to stop shelling on the demarcation line - this is entirely within the competence of the president.
“It is quite possible to stop the shelling. This will also be a huge success. The truce is not fulfilled by the parties for a simple reason - there is no punishment for non-compliance. There is a proposal that is in the UN Security Council - to station UN peacekeepers on the border between the parties. And, if Ukraine had not objected, then the United States would not have objected. We can talk about the border with Russia later, but first we need to ensure that they stop killing people,” Pogrebinsky said.
Zelensky, in his opinion, will be able to achieve parliamentary support on the issue of peace in Donbass.
“If the president really needs it, the Verkhovna Rada helps. The issue of stopping the shelling is entirely a presidential issue. All this is under the control of the president. This (cessation of shelling) is possible within literally a few weeks after the inauguration. Imagine - they were shooting for five years, a new president came, and they stopped shooting completely. This is such a success that it is quite possible to get a large faction into parliament,” Pogrebinsky said.
