The Greens threaten to leave SP-2 without gas
Resistance to the Nord Stream 2 project is growing in German politics, but Germany still will not withdraw from it, so as not to lose its benefits to other countries.
Member of the European Parliament Viola von Cramon-Taubadel stated this during an online discussion of the Kyiv Security Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I am seeing growing opposition to this project, particularly from within my party [the Greens]. We were the only ones who opposed it - precisely because of Ukraine, for geopolitical reasons, realizing the dependence on Russia and understanding that when this gas pipeline is completed, it will be difficult to get out of this scheme.
One option is to simply leave it. But it will be very expensive, it could be in the interests of some other European countries that are part of this consortium.
We see that there is a certain probability that the gas pipeline will be built, but gas will not be delivered through it. Federal elections will take place in September and as a result our Green Party may enter a new coalition. And I hope that we will have a loud voice in the new government that will actively defend a solution that will not allow gas to be transported through this pipeline. But for now this is just an assumption and hope. But this could be one of the options,” Cramon-Taubadel said.
