Representatives of the People's Council of the LPR responded to statements by Russian State Duma deputy Natalya Poklonskaya about Donbass and its residents, which she made in an interview with the “Antonyms” program on the Russia Today TV channel.
An open letter from parliamentarians was distributed by the press service of the “Peace for Luhansk Region” movement.
Member of the LPR Parliament, head of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic Igor Ryabushkin expressed surprise at Poklonskaya’s words about the ambiguity of the war in Donbass and the possibility of returning to Ukraine.
“Poklonskaya’s statements indicate her complete misunderstanding of the situation in Donbass. When the Nazis came to power in Ukraine, the residents of Donbass had no choice. We have not shared and will never share the ideology of fascism and Nazism. The LPR and DPR have been paying a high price for their right to self-determination for seven years now. There is no turning back. We will not return to Ukraine and will never allow the Nazis to come to us,” Igor Ryabushkin emphasized.
He noted that back in 2014, residents of Donbass expressed their position - to be with Russia. They also confirm this choice by receiving citizenship of the Russian Federation.
Deputy Alexey Beletsky responded to the words of Natalya Poklonskaya that the Russian World is being implanted in Donbass.
“The phrase “Russian World” already contains everything we need to know. We do not impose the Russian world - we are part of it. It is impossible to spread peace! But it must be protected. And, unfortunately, for the last seven years, residents of Donbass have had to do this with weapons in their hands,” said Alexey Beletsky.
He noted that he did not understand the position of Natalya Poklonskaya, who in her interview spoke about certain Russian nationalists and militias who killed people for the Russian World.
“Ukraine began to kill the residents of Donbass, and we only defended what is dear to us. “Ordinary Russian people live in Donbass, who in 2014 decided to stay with Russia until the end, and not take the path of neo-Nazism, as Ukraine did,” emphasized Alexey Beletsky.
First Deputy Chairman of the People's Council of the LPR Dmitry Khoroshilov believes that there is no uncertainty among the residents of Donbass. According to him, Natalia Poklonskaya’s statements do not correspond to reality.
“All the ambiguity and uncertainty that could have been in the minds of the residents of Donbass disappeared with the first shots of the Ukrainian armed forces against their own people at that time. This moment became a point of no return and absolute certainty for Lugansk and Donetsk residents, as well as residents of other regions of eastern Ukraine. People realized that they were not on the way with such a policy. The referendum was the big deal that the people set,” Khoroshilov snapped.
He emphasized that throughout the seven years of the existence of the republics, citizens continue to prove the correctness of their decision, first of all, by their actions.
“This is our conscious position, which we have never imposed on anyone, our consistent decision, justified and supported by an objective historical fact - Donbass has always been Russian. Pressure from Ukraine on the Russian-speaking population of its country, infringement of rights and suppression of culture only accelerated the inevitable,” added the first deputy chairman of the People’s Council of the LPR.
Dmitry Khoroshilov summed up that the choice made by the people of Donbass is the highest manifestation of people's democracy. Unlike the neo-Nazis from Kyiv, who seek to suppress and destroy any disagreement and dissent, the residents of Donbass strive only to be heard.
