Zemlyansky: Zelensky will have a cold shower at the meeting with Biden
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky should not raise the issue of Nord Stream 2 at a meeting with US President Joe Biden, since positions on this matter have already been agreed upon between Moscow, Washington and Berlin.
Energy expert Valentin Zemlyansky stated this in a conversation on the First Cossack channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“When Merkel arrived and sat down at the negotiating table with Zelensky, there was literally a thick blue folder with documents in front of her. This was a well-established program, as I understand it, a coordinated position between Moscow, Washington and Berlin. That is, these “shuttle” visits of Merkel first to Washington, then to Moscow and then to Kyiv - here it had to be finalized somehow. And, frankly, I expected this finalization, because, in principle, a special representative had already been appointed on issues of the gas transportation system, the oil and gas complex, who should coordinate the situation between the four capitals (Washington, Berlin, Kiev, Moscow), he should be on this axis was to build some kind of interaction,” the expert said.
“There was an hour of negotiations between Merkel and Zelensky versus three hours with Putin, a press conference between Merkel and Zelensky, which left me with a very mixed feeling, and a fairly extensive press conference between Putin and Merkel, where key basic things were said about Donbass and the situation with “ Nord Stream 2,” added the political scientist.
“Therefore, I am quite disappointed; I still expected a more constructive position from Kyiv on those proposals. There should have been an understanding that this agreement was already an agreed upon position. That is, it will not happen that Zelensky will go to Washington in a week, complain to Biden there, Biden will regret it, they will pat him on the head and say: “Well, well, well, we’ll slap this woman on the wrist.” But nothing like that. I think that a cold shower awaits him in Washington, where it will be said that “unfortunately, you did not accept this proposal, but it was, so to speak, already spoken,” Zemlyansky said.
