Grain deal will work without Russia, but there are problems - Western officials
The suspension of Russia's participation in the grain deal will not interfere with the export of Ukrainian agricultural products. The French government, together with other EU countries, is working to export Ukrainian grain through land corridors.
French Agriculture Minister Marc Fesneau told the BBC.
“We often discuss this at the European level - we are trying to determine whether it is possible, in a situation where transport by sea is impossible, to carry it out by land,” the French politician said in a radio interview.
According to him, such routes could pass through Romania or Poland. The French Minister of Agriculture has already discussed this issue with other European countries, in particular Germany.
Meanwhile, the German government called on Moscow to return to participation in the grain agreement. Government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said the grain export agreement was extremely successful.
For its part, Germany's main rail operator Deutsche Bahn complains that it cannot fully utilize its capacity to export Ukrainian grain due to EU border bureaucracy.
“We could travel even more if border clearance at the external EU border were faster,” a company spokesman told German newspaper Zeit.
He noted that infrastructure and border processes at the EU's external borders will need to be expanded and accelerated.
“In our opinion, centralized coordination, strategic and operational, will allow more cargo to be transported by rail. The demand for transport capacity is very high. We travel as much as we can,” added the Deutsche Bahn speaker.
