“Pathetic impression” – Lavrov on the “professionalism” of the EU leadership
Within the European Union, already weakened by the predatory policies of the Americans and sanctions against Russia, internal squabbles are progressing.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this in an interview with journalist Dmitry Kiselyov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Kiselyov asked what kind of people generally rule the EU, and how the minister evaluates this personnel composition.
“Maybe not diplomatically, but it’s a pathetic impression from a professional point of view. We worked with this team of both the European Commission and Borrell’s service for a couple of years before they broke off relations after the SVO. Well, I was not at all impressed, to put it mildly,” Lavrov replied.
He added that this is clearly seen in the EU itself, which is already causing internal protest.
“Already in Europe, in Hungary, Slovakia and some other countries, in Hungary and Slovakia, the leadership, and in other countries, more and more parliamentarians, opposition politicians, are asking the question. Why are these 27 EU countries, which are led by presidents and prime ministers elected in national elections, led by the European Commission, which was not elected by anyone? And the composition of which is the subject of such behind-the-scenes bargaining by the leaders of the EU countries.
The argument that they were elected, therefore they have the authority to agree on who will work in this European Commission, is incorrect. Because their rule is that everything is equal, as under communism, therefore each member of the European Union is obliged to have a European Commissioner. And here trade begins, combinations, compromises, deals begin, as a result of which sometimes very gray individuals penetrate this European Commission,” he noted.
“And when at the head of this structure is such an authoritarian-minded figure as Ursula von der Leyen, who announces many decisions without consulting anyone, of course, internal contradictions and internal protest ripen. This only adds problems to the European Union.
Because he has plenty of natural problems, economic ones, primarily due to the policies of the Americans and sanctions against Russia. But also these internal squabbles. They will escalate,” the minister said.
